Đặng Thu Hà trained in interior design and spent seven years making lamps for cafés before she opened the workshop in 2021. The first lamp to carry the Đèn Hạ Chí name was made for a friend’s café. Every piece in our collection has started as one of her drawings since.
What she does on a lamp
Hà is the first person at the workshop to see your room, in a photo. When you ask for a light mock-up, she draws the lamp straight into your picture, with the light falling on the table and the pattern of the weave on the wall, and sends it back within 48 hours. She chooses the shade size, the cable length and where it hangs, and writes the price on the drawing. You can ask for changes until you approve it.
For cafés she also draws the circuit plan and the schedule for an overnight installation. At every installation she carries a handheld lux meter, measures the light on each tabletop and notes it in the workshop ledger.
Something she learned
For her first mock-ups she guessed ceiling heights from the photos. Once she guessed 30 cm short: the lamp went up lower than the drawing and the cable had to be cut again on the spot. Since then the mock-up form always asks for the ceiling height measured with a tape, and she sends nothing without it.
What she looks out for
She tells you early when a material is wrong for the room. At the Nhà Chín Phòng homestay in Đà Lạt she ruled out dó paper in the first draft because of the damp. In the An Khánh apartment she asked whether the bedroom had air conditioning before she drew a paper shade. She led both the Thềm Chiều café and Khoa and Uyên’s apartment projects.
